Boredom and Evil
In talking about the effects of boredom on human existence, Soren Kierkegaard said, "Boredom is the root of all Evil." He further says that boredom is a state of nothingness, a feeling of emptiness, a void that permeates all aspects of life and reality.
That does seem like a profound, dark moment in one's life. There are times when nothing excites us, not even the beauty surrounding us, to revive our spirit.
We may not live a life of boredom but may experience moments of boredom that make us inactive people who refuse to engage in life meaningfully. Boredom robs us of the joy of living and finding meaning. A vacation or a new something is not the answer. The answer is in finding the joy within each of us. The reason to be joyful is already in everyone if we take the time to look within us.
How do we free ourselves from boredom and start living the way God wants us to live with happiness?
- Break away from taking yourself too seriously.
- Life is to be lived in a relationship with the people in our lives, not in isolation.
- Do not feel guilty about being happy.
- Let the world excite you to be more and do more.
- Gratitude.
I hope today you will not accept boredom as a part of life, but the absence of the celebration of life. Enjoy your day to the fullest!
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
