Finding Freedom from Fear
Exodus 15:20b

And Miriam sang: Sing to the Lord, for the Lord has triumphed gloriously; he has thrown the horse and rider into the sea.
-Exodus 15:20b

We all face situations over which we feel powerless. The people of Isreal were fearful because they could not withstand the assault of the all-powerful army of Pharoah. They cried out to God, and God shielded them. After the sea swallowed Pharaoh's army, which was so close to causing great harm, Miriam and her sisters took their timbrels and danced

How do we face adversarial situations as people of faith? This story tells us that with God, we, too, can mock our fears and have triumphant moments. Not because we can but because God will. Miriam trusted that one day soon she would sing victory songs when she was in turmoil because Miriam trusted that the time would come when God would deliver her, and she would break forth in songs of praise. She knew that her darkest moment was not permanent. Only God's presence and care are permanent and constant. Imagining victory over a challenging situation is how we find freedom from fear.

Psalm 23: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of evil, I will fear no evil for though art with me.
